St. Pauls United Church of Christ

There is no apostrophe in this church's name...a nod to their German roots in which apostrophes are not used in the possessive. Reminders of the church's history (one of Chicago's oldest) are plentiful but so are signs of its evolution into a progressive, welcoming community of faith located in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, home to a diverse community of families, singles, students and daytime working professionals.

Our process

After nearly 40 years of ministry, the senior minister retired and an interim minister was tasked with developing a new website for the church. Partnering with a church in transition and in the process of defining its vision for the future was a unique challenge and one that we relished. Our normal discovery phase of attending services, interviewing members and exploring the archives brought fresh perspective to the question: "What next?". The resulting site is one that honors the tradition from which St. Pauls has come while leaving room for the church to grow in new directions.

Under the hood

Drupal was chosen as the content management system for its customization capabilities, ease of use and ability to designate multiple levels of users and permissions. Also, St. Pauls is a popular venue for wedding ceremonies due to its stunning sanctuary, therefore we augmented the master calendar to facilitate wedding planning and facilities maintenance for the church staff.

Why we love this site

The opportunity to work with talented local photographer, Heather Parker, infused our designs with light, warmth, candidness and sincerity. Our creative collaborations with visual artists, such as Heather, transform our design of the site into something extraordinary.
